Have the people in your town adapted the fun new game of hiding and hunting rocks? Well, our town has and we have been really enjoying it! As a matter of fact, we recently got together with some friends from our local homeschool group for a Rock Painting Craft Day!

With the help of products from Oriental Trading we were able to successfully paint rocks for our children to hide.

We started by purchasing river rocks from the garden center at our local home improvement store. When we got the rocks home we took them outside and cleaned them in a tub with dish soap. We dried them and laid them in the sun for a while. Once they were dry we brought them into the house to be painted.

We painted our rocks with acrylic paint. Some of the children used paint pens to decorate their rocks. You can find those HERE. When the rocks had all dried the children put Mod Podge over the top of the rocks. This was to protect them and seal the paint to the rocks.

It was really quite simple!

The other items that we purchased at the Oriental Trading Craft & Hobby Supplies section for our Rock painting day were tablecloth, aprons and paint brushes.

We had so much fun painting our rocks and can’t wait to do it again! This was a great project for the kids and adults to do together. Hiding rocks and finding rocks is a great way to keep the kids active and outdoors as well.

Have you ever done a rock painting craft with your kids?

I think Rock Painting is so much fun and a terrific craft. My sister-in-law makes lovely gifts with nice sayings on rocks. I would enjoy doing this too.
